As the first national natural monument, the Ivenacker oaks are a cultural and natural historical speciality. They are among the oldest trees in Germany and have a special symbolic power. The Ivenacker oaks, which are probably around 1,000 years old, are evidence of the land use form of the Hude (grazing) forest that was widespread in the Middle Ages. Over the centuries, cattle were driven into the surrounding forests to graze. By grazing on the growth, some trees were able to develop particularly well. In the 164 ha Hude forest area, there are around 240 large trees, mostly oaks. The strongest oak has a diameter of 3.49 m, a height of 35.5 m and a wood volume of around 180 fm. This makes it the strongest and oldest living oak in Germany and probably also in Central Europe.

The Ivenacker Oaks are a park in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The Ivenacker Oaks are the Forest Area of the Year 2020.
The area in the Mecklenburg municipality of Ivenack near Stavenhagen is famous for its ancient oaks. The enclosure has an entrance in every direction. There are 10 km of hiking trails in the park. It is located a little west of Ivenack on the road to Basepohl, northwest of Ivenacker Lake. It borders Ivenack Castle and was originally the associated castle park. The zoo is part of the FFH area Ivenacker Tiergarten, Stavenhagener Stadtholz and surroundings.

1000 years ago, this area was used by Slavs as forest pasture (Hude). Around 1300, the cattle of the Ivenacker Cistercian monastery were driven into the forest. In 1806, the oak trunks were already so large that the Ivenackers are said to have hidden the valuable breeding stallion Herodotus in a hollow oak trunk from the French.

The Ivenacker pedunculate oaks, also known as thousand-year-old oaks, are among the oldest in Europe. They are said to be 500 to almost 1000 years old. The mightiest of the Ivenacker oaks has a trunk circumference of over eleven meters at chest height and a height of 35.5 meters. The wood mass is given as 180 solid cubic meters. This makes it Germany's strongest living oak. This oak is amazingly healthy, the trunk is undamaged and the crown is still full. The other old oaks have trunk circumferences of seven to nine meters. In 1996, the health of the Ivenacker oaks was assessed and attempts were made to determine their age by measuring annual rings with an increment borer. However, because they are all hollow, this was not possible. The estimated age of the five oldest oaks in 1996 was between 565 and 826 years, slightly less than previously assumed. This makes them among the oldest oaks living in Germany. Some of the oaks are depicted on a special stamp from the German Post Office. The German Post Office of the GDR also issued a natural monument stamp - "Ivenacker Oaks" near Stavenhagen.

In August 2016, the Ivenacker Oaks were named the first national natural monument in Germany.
