The Silberberg rises directly east over Bodenmais in the Bavarian Forest and is the local mountain of the place.
Its height is modest at 995m, but due to the rocky double summit it is still one of the most striking mountains in the area.
It offers a beautiful view of Bodenmais and the surrounding mountain region.
A beautiful circular trail later leads to the summit even in very steep terrain.
Attention: you can easily miss the climb and then reaches after a few meters to the Wolfgangstollen. Here it is only through dense, rough terrain that ends in nowhere. So watch out and watch out for the two big boulders with the number 1 just before the Wolfgangstollen (or on the way back from it); Here we continue up to the summit.
On Silberberg there is a former mine, which was first mentioned in 1463.
Until 1542 mainly silver mining was operated. But many other ores are available here.
The owners were both the state and private owners, who alternated constantly until the mine was finally nationalized in 1772.
In 1845, the precious metal production was discontinued.
The mine can be visited today with a guide and right next to it is the pub Bergmann-Schänke.

From here you have a fantastic view. If you are on the Silbersteig themed trail, here is a tip: You walk towards the cable car / the summit, but should actually turn left beforehand. You shouldn't do that, otherwise you will miss the summit. If you want to continue walking on the Silbersteig from the summit, you should follow the sign "Steilerpfad" to the right on the way back towards the cable car. Then you not only have a different (back) way, but above all a lonely one with further great views! And the path is not steep, you just have to look where you are walking!

The Silberberg (955 m) is Bodenmais' local mountain. It is also called the "bishop's hood" because of its double summit.
If you prefer something more comfortable, you can take the nostalgic chairlift to just below the summit.
Otherwise, numerous attractive hiking trails lead to the summit.
There are also rest stops and children's playgrounds at the valley station and middle station!
