Almost 200 years ago, the first forest warden's house and a restaurant stood here. For a time, the forest house fell into a deep sleep, but after the filming of "Krambambuli" was set here, the cottage was given new life. Today, you'll find a small restaurant (open Friday to Sunday), an information center for the Steinwald Nature Park, the State Forests, and the Bavarian-Bohemia Geopark, as well as a playground and a game reserve.

As early as 1831, a forest keeper's house was mentioned in documents at the present location of the Waldhaus and just a few years later a restaurant was named. After the Second World War, the Waldhaus lost its meaning and fell into a "Sleeping Beauty". With the filming of the novella "Krambambuli" by Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach with Tobias Moretti in the lead role, the picturesque Waldhaus moved back into the light of the public. Located right next to the deer enclosure and surrounded by beautiful hiking trails, the Waldhaus has always been one popular destination for young and old. It is easy to reach on foot from Schützen. Since its opening, the lovingly renovated Waldhaus is also managed. The rustic restaurant attracts visitors with drinks, coffee and cake as well as hearty snacks from Nah & Fern into the idyllic nature of the Steinwald.
Opening hours:
Fri 1 pm to 5 pm
Sat, Sundays and public holidays 10.00 bis 17.00 clock
Groups are requested to register in time.

Attention: dogs are not allowed in the inn, which I find unusual for a hiking restaurant! Maybe it doesn't matter in the summer, but with -5 degrees and stormy winds, of course I didn't want to leave my woof out. So I completely refrained from taking a break. A pity!

On Father's Day, it's definitely self-service. There were various stands in the courtyard. We saw 2 of the hotel's own Bobby Cars for the children and an old cable drum had been lovingly painted as a car track, complete with small toy cars. Unfortunately, there is no changing table for the very little ones.
