Very well maintained public area. On the way: tree nature trail and fitness tips. Bathing almost all the lake allowed (swimwear compulsion), non-swimmers with kiosk, sailing school (also with children's program), barbecue hut, toilets. Despite summer holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony I hardly counted more than ten bathers in midsummer 2018. Is a mass beach on the Mediterranean really nicer?

History

The lake was created between the late 1970s and early 1980s and was created during the construction of the A30 motorway section between Rheine and Ibbenbüren. The dredged sand was used for the construction of the motorway, creating a lake 800 meters long and 600 meters wide with a depth of up to 20 meters.

In 1985, as part of the further development of the local recreation area, a one-hectare bathing bay with a sandy beach and a lawn was created. Swimming is permitted in the rest of the lake, with the exception of a fish spawning area.
