The tower is structurally older than the Waiblingen city wall. This was later added to the tower on two sides in the 13th century. [2]

The base of the tower was built in 1250 at the latest. The overlying masonry was built around 1500. After a fire in 1863, the pitched roof was changed and created the upper part of the tower in its present form. In addition, a stone balustrade was installed at 21.5 m height. The present wooden staircase inside the tower dates from the middle of the 20th century.
