Freedom - Henk Visch - 2013
Abstract, like a child's drawing, but hugely enlarged and three-dimensional, an animal stands on a hill with a wonderful view. Four legs, a straight back, a tail, the blue head looks up to the sky. From a distance an animal in outline, the clarity disappears when you stand by the sculpture on the hill. The abstract animal form is hardly recognizable in the tubular construction.
The situation is similar with freedom, a concept that initially seems to be clearly defined, but which is almost inevitably questioned beyond recognition, is relativized to the point of disappearance.
The station on the path of reflection refers to a general concept of freedom that includes the political dimension, but at the same time goes far beyond it.
Henk Visch offers an artistic, intuitive solution that eludes clarity, but nevertheless creates an image with its poetic accent in connection with the scenic beauty and spaciousness of the place that reflects the range of meanings of this central concept of our self-image without dismantling it .
