Through research, exhibitions, children's education, and other activities, Fjord&Bælt aims to disseminate knowledge about life in the Kattegat, Belts, and Sounds, and to improve the living conditions of marine mammals in Denmark and elsewhere.
Our porpoises are our main attraction. Fjord&Bælt is one of the very few places in the world where you can see these whales up close. The porpoises are monitored by researchers from all over the world who, among other things, conduct projects on the animals' behavior. Research is a natural part of the marine center's educational offerings.
In 2006, Fjord&Bælt agreed with the University of Southern Denmark to establish a Danish Marine Mammal Research Center. The research center is intended to serve as an example of how to develop a modern, ambitious, and independent research facility with high quality standards.
