The South Theater was built around 90 to 92 AD. It had 32 rows of seats that could accommodate up to 5,000 spectators. The theater is built into the hillside to the west of the Jupiter Temple; the upper tier has a barrel vault. The stage has a classic Roman design and has two side arched gates and three backdrop entrances. Audiences were not blinded by sunlight as the theater faced north.

Along with the Temple of Artemis, it is considered the most attractive structure in the ancient city. Some of its rows of seats were already numbered. For today's visitors, the beautiful view from the top row of seats is particularly worth the climb.

Its the bigger one of the theaters of ancient Jerash. From the upper rows of the spectators you've got an excellent view over the site. With its excellent acoustics, it is used as a main venue for the Jerash Festival of Culture and Arts.

The 'South Theater' is the largest and oldest of the three theaters of ancient Gerasa. This theater was built right next to the 'Santuary of Zeus' on the same hill. It was created at the end of the 1st century. A.D.
