A landscaped space dating back to 1840, with successive updates since then.
The first reports of a landscaped space in Beja, in the same location as the current Public Garden, date back to 1840. They state that a former commander of the 11th Regiment, then stationed at the former Convent of S. Francisco, landscaped an area of the convent's enclosure.
The garden's current layout began to take shape, however, around 1880, when the municipality decided to renovate and improve the space, beginning a process of continuous renovation that continues to this day. Until 1922, the name adopted was Froebel Garden (after a German pedagogue).
