"Statue of Liberty"

In his own fairytale-like, gnome-like style, the Leipzig School artist created a Statue of Liberty with a deliberately childlike, melancholic, humorous expressiveness. In contrast to the well-known New York Statue of Liberty, the figure is depicted far less monumentally and heroically but rather smaller than life-size with feminine curves. Jürgen Raiber saw the end of the GDR, in which he lived, as a liberation from state control. He and his wife were activists in the Monday demonstrations and experienced directly the emergence of the many people who took to the streets despite possible dangers to their lives thus significantly initiated the opening of the wall. A Statue of Liberty that modestly but firmly represents human proportions and capabilities.
