On the 562 meter high Schwarzenberg, hidden in the forest, there is a chapel dedicated to the painful Mother of God. The Schwarzenberg Chapel was built in 1719. The altar with the Pietà in the middle is framed by Saints Aloisius (right) and Augustine.

Thank you boards and crutches on the walls indicate that the Schwarzenberg Mother of God was called on when she was sick and helped. Next to the chapel is the Heroes Cemetery with the graves of soldiers who perished in Kelberg in World War II, and a little below the memorial for soldiers who died in World War I and II.

Out of gratitude after overcoming the plague, the late Gothic chapel to the "Sorrowful Mother of God" on the Schwarzenberg was expanded as a plastered building in 1719. The year of construction of the chapel is not known. The arched windows with barrel vaults originate from this construction phase. The pilgrimage chapel is a special gem. It is 14 meters long and 6 meters wide.

In the vicinity of the chapel there is a basalt high cross from 1785, which was donated by Johann Joseph Hens from Kelberg, the taker of the Daun office. The path from the foot of the mountain up to the chapel is lined with 14 stations of the cross. They were created in 1864 instead of seven footfalls. Together with the Way of the Cross and the Bittwege, the chapel forms a sacred ensemble that is still widely visited and used today.

The chapel is not locked so that everyone can pray in peace. Visitors are then allowed to ring the bell.

Great chapel that stands at the end of an extraordinary station path.

It is not known when exactly the chapel was built. On a map from the Daun office from 1683, no chapel is listed. The late-Gothic chapel to the "Sorrowful Mother of God" on the Schwarzenberg was probably built or expanded as a plastered structure in 1719 out of gratitude after overcoming the plague. The arched windows with barrel vaults date from this construction phase. The pilgrimage chapel is a special gem. It is 14 meters long and 6 meters wide.

Since in 1794 the Kelberg parish church was used as a warehouse by a French army corps (about 10,000 men), the service was moved to the chapel on the Schwarzenberg.

The glass paintings in the nave and in the choir were created in 1920 by the glass painter Maier from Bad Neuenahr. In the central part of the altar, the sanctuary houses an image of Our Lady of Sorrows (Pietà), framed by the statues of Saints Aloysius (on the right) and Augustine (on the left). In addition, there are representations of the saints Barbara, Brigitte and Wendelin, who are quite popular in the Eifel, in the chapel windows. The votive tablets and the old crutches in the pilgrimage chapel bear witness to the gratitude for God's experienced help at the intercession of the saints, especially the Blessed Mother.

Near the chapel there is a basalt high cross from 1785, which was donated by the collector of the Daun office, Johann Joseph Hens from Kelberg. The path from the foot of the mountain up to the chapel is lined with 14 Stations of the Cross. They were created in 1864 in place of seven footfalls. Together with the Stations of the Cross and the Ways of Prayer, the chapel forms a sacred ensemble that is still widely visited and used today (history route of the Kelberg Association of Municipalities, Section 2, Station 2).

In 2018, the municipality of Kelberg bought the chapel and the associated wooded land. A forest cemetery for urn burials was set up on part of these areas in 2019. In April 2020, the forest cemetery was occupied for the first time.

After the conversion of the History Road 2020 to themed circular hiking trails, the associated information board belongs to the circular hiking trail "Sagenhafter Schwarzenberg" (History Road of the Kelberg Association of Municipalities, Section 2, Station 2).
