In about 400 BC Celts settled the old king. The two ring and annex ramparts of the Altkönig ring wall on the summit plateau date from this period. They are about 980 m and 1390 m long and still visible today.

The ringwall Altkönig is commonly regarded as the most impressive prehistoric fortification in the Taunus. The plant occupies an area of 26ha. The ramparts made of Taunus quartzite have a length of up to 1,390 m (outer ring). This fortification was originally a drywall of the type Altkönig-Preist. This name is based on the fact that the present design of a post slotted wall was first researched at the Altkönig and parallel to it in Preist in the Eifel.
