On the Herreninsel you can visit the most famous attraction of the region all year round: Herrenchiemsee Castle. King Ludwig II had it built on the model of Versailles from 1878 until his death in 1886. The state rooms of the palace can be visited as part of a guided tour. It is also worth visiting the König Ludwig Museum, the gardens with the water features

An impressive canal was dug on an East-West axis through the Park, continued with a wide lawn stretching across the entire Herren island, accentuated by rows of tall trees and allowing Vistas of and from the Palace on both sides for miles across the lake.
