    The right Fortuna fountain in front of the castle. It was completed during the lifetime of Ludwig II, but unfortunately leaky - ie after his death it was planted with lawn and between 1991-1994 it was in its original state!

                    🍀 The Fortuna Fountain in front of Herrenchiemsee Palace is a magnificent homage to the Roman goddess of luck – and another example of Ludwig II's love of mythology and Baroque splendor.

                    🎭 Symbolism & Design

                    The central figure is Fortuna, depicted on a wheel of fortune, surrounded by putti riding dolphins and other aquatic creatures.

                    The fountain consists of three circular basins arranged in a pyramid-like manner.

                    It was created by Wilhelm von Römann in 1884–85 and is modeled on the fountain in the Spanish royal palace, La Granja de San Ildefonso.

                    💦 Water Features & Restoration

                    After Ludwig II's death, the fountain leaked for a long time and was covered with grass.

                    Between 1991 and 1994, it was extensively restored and returned to its original condition.

                    The water features run from May to October – usually on the hour, along with the other fountains in the palace gardens.
