Looking at old photographs, at the beginning of the 20th century, in place of the Atbrīvošanas aleja bridge, a wooden bridge with the names “Highway Bridge” (1906), “Large Bridge” (1916) was visible. In 1927, a new concrete bridge with an arched structure was opened. The beautiful arched bridge was blown up in 1941. In the post-war years, it was restored. In turn, the reconstruction of the existing bridge began in 2011 and was completely completed in 2013, when the empty spaces of the bridge railings were filled with bas-reliefs with years and the historical names of the city of Rēzekne.
