Villa Oppenheim was reportedly used by Nazis during the Second World War to house forced laborers. There is a rumor about a tragic love around the house: During the war, a Polish slave laborer fell in love with the landlord's daughter. The latter reacted with anger and let the worker hang up without further ado. Since then, the spirit of the young man has been haunted by the walls.

The Villa Oppenheim was built by Eduard Salomon Freiherr von Oppenheim around 1850 on the previously acquired Fühlingen area. Oppenheim was originally of Jewish faith and converted to the Protestant faith of his wife after the marriage. He was a partner in the Oppenheim family bank in Cologne. He also later acquired the Schlenderhahn Stud and had a racecourse built on the Fühlingen site. Oppenheim died in 1909.
