The Miercurea Ciuc Ice Skating Arena has a capacity of 4,000 spectators. It hosts the matches of the SC Miercurea Ciuc ice hockey team. The arena is also used for concerts, exhibitions, and performances. In 2007, it hosted the FIFA U-20 World Championship. Next to the arena is an oval outdoor ice rink, built in 1952, used for speed skating competitions. Since 1999, the rink has been named after Lajos Vákár, a former ice hockey player and coach. In front of the arena stands a metal sculpture of two ice hockey players battling for the puck. The work, by the Nagybánya sculptor Gábor Tőrös, was erected in 1979. The names of the players depicted are engraved on the handles of their ice hockey sticks: István Czáka and Lajos Vákár.
