The Duno Stone Bridge in the Doorwerth Forest
Located on the Duno estate, just south of Doorwerth, you'll find this remarkable stone bridge. In landscape architecture, it's called a folly—a structure with no practical function, intended solely to enhance the landscape.
The letters DUNO are incorporated into the bridge in a unique, mirror-image N—a subtle detail that enhances its decorative character.
The bridge is hidden in the Duno moraine forest, a rolling landscape formed during the penultimate ice age. You walk under the bridge on unpaved forest paths, often lined with ancient oaks and beeches, interspersed with layers of ferns and moss.
It's one of the highlights of the Dorenweertsepad, a popular wooden clog path that starts at Doorwerth Castle. The bridge marks the beginning of the spectacular wooded plateau landscape of the Duno Estate.
