The cycle path offers impressive views of Göttweig Abbey, which sits majestically on a wooded hill south of the Danube. Especially in the section between Krems and Traismauer, the monastery, which stands watch over the Danube Valley from afar, opens up again and again. From a distance, the baroque complex appears like a crown over the landscape and is a striking landmark for cyclists. The view of the monastery, combined with the vineyards, river landscape, and the interplay of light and hills, makes this section particularly scenic.
Göttweig Abbey is a baroque Benedictine monastery perched on a hill high above the Danube Valley near Krems. Founded in 1083 and later magnificently expanded, it is now part of the Wachau UNESCO World Heritage Site. The extensive complex, with the imposing Kaiserstieg (Emperor's Path), the baroque abbey church, and magnificent views, is a popular excursion destination. The short, steep detour up is also worthwhile for cyclists, for example on the Danube Cycle Path - whether for sightseeing, a break or simply for the impressive view over the Danube Valley.
