Archaeological research in Kibol was started here by the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2002. During the excavations, the remains of estates with palisaded fences from the 11th–12th centuries and deep underground cellars of large above-ground buildings from the 12th–15th centuries, as well as household items, tools and jewelry, were discovered and studied. One of the oldest Christian objects found in Suzdal Opolye comes from the excavations in Kibol – a fragment of a cross with an image of the Crucifixion from the 11th century.
