Rohan's Redoubt / Rhine Redoubt, Landquart
The Rohan's Redoubt and its demolition by Anton Mooser, Maienfeld.
The remains of this fortification, consisting only of earthworks and with a star-shaped layout, a so-called star-shaped redoubt (bastion system), lie north of Landquart. It is bordered to the south by the Rhaetian Railway and bisected to the southwest by the main road. The French and their allies, the Grisons, began construction of this new Rhine Redoubt, commonly known as the "Rohan's Redoubt," in November 1631. Shortly before, the imperial star-shaped redoubt near the Tardis Bridge had been demolished. The new Rheinschanze, probably designed and directed by the Zurich military architect.
