In 1919, Volfas Kaganas, son of Michel, was born in 1900 in the town of Balbieriškis, Marijampolė County. By profession, he was a shoemaker. He graduated from two grades of elementary school. On April 3, 1919, he was mobilized into the Lithuanian Army. A sectionman of the 1st Infantry Gediminas Regiment. He participated in battles against all enemies of Lithuanian independence. He distinguished himself in battles with the Russian Bolsheviks on August 24, 1919 near the village of Asavitai in Zarasai County. Volfas Kaganas, like the absolute majority of Lithuanian Jews, was shot during the war in 1941 in Girkalnis.
