Only the lower part (made of coal sandstone) of the Maaspunttoren is late medieval. How this came about and what the connection is with the other towers nearby can be read below.
Wyck has three remains of the old fortress: the Maasmuur, Waterpoortje and the Maaspunttoren. However, they are not entirely original. They are restored versions from the nineteenth and early twentieth century.
Until 1869, the Wyck fortress was still intact. In that year, the rigorous demolition of the walls, ramparts, gates, towers and outer works began.
