In the past, the Halberstadt water tower at the main station was left to decay for a long time. The building is a city-known monument to industrial design of the early 20th century and has been part of the "skyline" of Halberstadt for almost 100 years. In his better days he served to supply the steam locomotives of Deutsche Bahn with service water. After these disappeared more and more from Germany's rails, also the high need for water of the railway sank and thus also such steel witnesses of a past age were superfluous and left to the decay. Even demolition plans were forged.
Fortunately, these were never realized and in 2007 I managed to buy the water tower from Deutsche Bahn AG. Since then, the most important steps have been taken to preserve the structure of the building, such as clearing the entire tower, removing the wild vegetation on the facade or renovating the lantern shed. however, there is still a lot to do. For example, in stages the outer tour and the large riveted steel ball are to be completely renovated.
