Arthur's Seat dominates Holyrood Park and rewards with commanding views across the Edinburgh region and the Firth of Forth. An ancient volcano, it rises dramatically above the capital city and is unsurprisingly a popular objective. There are plenty of routes to the top, perfect for little legs and future Munro baggers.

Stable shoes, food (at least water) and something to coat is recommended because the path is uneven, the climb is exhausting and it can be windy / cold in the upper area.

The ascent on the south / west side offers an interesting view of the buildings below.

Less strenuous it is in my opinion, but to go down along and then descend to the summit on this way, because you climb a few meters steeply to then gently break down again, before the actual ascent to the summit begins.

At the summit you have a great view over the city.
Definitely pack something to drink.
In some sections the climb is steep, firm footwear is an advantage.
At the top it could be very windy, so I recommend to have a hat and scarf in the luggage. 😉

There are 1000 ways on the Arthur's seat! All are beautifully landscaped. The view from the top of Edinburgh is stunning! The descent should be done on the other side and stop at the Sheep Heid Inn in Duddingston village. Worth it! Quick you are then back on the road directly in Edinburgh

Walk up is easy BUT after rain is slippery, so wear boots with grip. Plenty of tourists slipping and sliding on a way. Hike official way but go back through the other side walk path. Much more enjoyable = less people!
