Doña Elvira was the daughter of the Chancellor of Castile, Don Pero López de Ayala, servant and chronicler of King Pedro I and his three immediate successors. After the bloody attack on Seville's Jewish Quarter in 1391, Elvira inherited a large part of the present-day Santa Cruz neighborhood from her father, including a space that would later become the site of a comedy theater. It was there that Lope de Rueda began his career as an actor and playwright, and Miguel de Cervantes himself premiered several of his famous creations.

Here on Plaza de Doña Elvira, house number 6 is the birthplace of Doña Inés de Ulloa, here lived the impossible love of Don Juan, the great womanizer. It is now a restaurant where you can eat delicious food, by the way. According to many Sevillanos, Don Juan really existed and was supposed to have been born in house number 2 on Calle Justino de Neve.
