These anti-tank barriers were erected between 1936 and 1939 to prevent Allied tanks from advancing. The Siegfried Line marked the border of what was then the German Empire; there were also thousands of bunkers and tunnels here. Today these monstrous structures are covered with moss and overgrown with forest.

After the First World War, many states in Europe built complex border fortifications. It was believed that the deterrent effect of these modern defenses could prevent conflicts in the future. The expansion at the German western border was carried out in several phases from 1936. Proposed by the National Socialists as a "protective or peace wall in the west", the 630 km long west wall between Kleve and Basel was part of the war preparations of the German Reich. The remains that are still visible today include, above all, tank barriers (bump lines) and bunkers. Source: kuladig.de
