At this viewing platform you will not only receive the Harz hiking pin number 20, but also the first reward for the climb from Elend: a fantastic view. The steep climb beforehand should be tackled with good footwear in bad weather. The view then stretches across the Elend valley to Elend.

The 695m high Barenberg, or Barenkopf called, offers you a good view over the Elendstal to misery and the Hohnenklippen after Hohnekamm. You can also see direction Schierke. Since the ascent is only possible via hiking and forest trails, you are guaranteed peace here. If you come from the observation pulpit, the path leads from here on to the snoring cliffs.

A warm view towards Brocken and Schierke. Unfortunately, the entire forest has also died here and is being cut down on a large scale ;-(
The HWN 20 stamping point is here at the lookout point, the Barenberg hilltop a few meters further and higher in the direction of Schnarcherklippen.

The viewpoint Barenberg 696 m is 150 meters above the Elendstal valley and offers a beautiful view over Schierke, the strawberry head and the Hohnekamm with its cliffs.

The shortest access path begins on the outskirts of Elend and leads steeply up to a vantage point from which one can overlook the Elendstal. From the vantage point, continue to the summit of the Barenberg. It is recommended to descend via the Schnarcherklippen HWN 14 and hike back through the Elendstal.

The path between Barenberg and Schnarcherklippen is difficult to walk due to storm damage. The original path is no longer visible over a distance of approx. 200 m.
