A solar park has been built on the former air base in Oldenburg. At the end of 2011, numerous solar modules were connected to the grid on the runway in Oldenburg. Once used by German and British fighter jets, the site is now home to an environmentally friendly solar power plant. The PV power plant is approximately the size of 40 football fields and saves approximately 9,383 tons of climate-damaging CO2 emissions annually.
On the almost 30-hectare conversion site, 61,906 PV modules generate quiet and, above all, environmentally friendly electricity. The peak output of the Oldenburg solar park is approximately 14.7 MWp. Each year, enough solar power is generated to cover the annual electricity consumption of approximately 3,400 households. With this PV project, the city of Oldenburg is suddenly ensuring a greener energy mix and actively contributing to climate protection in the urban area.
