The Heilongtan Water Conservancy Scenic Area is located at the foot of Er'e Mountain in the Longquan Mountains in the southern suburbs of Chengdu. It is 50 kilometers north of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, 70 kilometers south of the Leshan Giant Buddha and Mount Emei, the world natural and cultural heritage, 20 kilometers west of Meishan City, the hometown of the Three Su brothers, and 10 kilometers east of Renshou County. It is in the best position on the southern loop of Sichuan Tourism. On October 15, 2013, it was approved as a "national-level water conservancy scenic area" by the Ministry of Water Resources (Water Comprehensive (2013) No. 394). The scenic area is based on the large-scale water conservancy project-Heilongtan Reservoir, with a catchment area of 185.5 square kilometers, a lake surface of 23.6 square kilometers, and a lakeshore length of 310 kilometers. There are 7 gorges, 7 dams, and 85 islands in the lake. There are more than 40 landscapes such as the ten major scenic spots of "Majestic Dam", "Overflow Waterfall", "Panlong Green Island", "Eight Immortals Islands", "Three Bays Jicui", "Shuangyan Lake Light", "Qinglongzui Rare Plant Garden", and "Shanwang Orchard". The scenic area has a profound cultural connotation and historical relics. The scenic area has complete supporting facilities, including Heilongtan Hotel, Mediterranean Neighborhood Heilongtan Resort, Sichuan Heilongtan Global Sunac Paradise InterContinental Hotel, China Railway Heilongtan International Tourism Resort and other leisure and holiday hotels.
The land vegetation coverage rate of the scenic area is 98.4%, and the forest coverage rate is 67%. There are more than 300 rare flowers and trees, more than 60 bird species such as egrets, gray cranes, swans, etc. The average annual temperature is 17.2C, there is no severe cold in winter and no scorching heat in summer. It is known as "the first sea in Western Sichuan" and "the back garden of Chengdu".
