Kush-Kaya is the highest mountain on the direct coast of the sea in Crimea, 664 meters. Ayu-Dag on the South Coast of Crimea and Karadag in Eastern Crimea are lower. Therefore, the views from the top are the most attractive. It is located above the Batiliman tract, southwest of the Laspinsky Pass. Kush-Kaya is one of the largest reefs in Crimea and Europe, which was formed about 140-165 million years ago on the bottom of the ancient Tethys Ocean from colonies of corals and sponges. A significant part of the mountain is covered with pine trees and junipers. In spring, there are many peonies here. But the top of the mountain is completely treeless - rare junipers grow practically on bare rock. In ancient times, large flocks of bustards gathered in the vicinity of the mountain before migrating. Today, only the name reminds us of this. Thanks to Mount Batiliman, it is famous for its unique microclimate, because Kush-Kaya protects the tract from northern winds. This is most noticeable in winter: when there may be snow and a piercing wind blowing above, on the Laspi Pass, and at the same time below, under the Kush-Kaya cliffs, there is wonderful warm weather.
"Cape Aya is the last step of the earth,
It turned red in foam and cloudy smoke.
Behind it, the world ended,
Behind it, waves and dolphins danced and a fast wind blew, falling to the water."
Konstantin Paustovsky.
