This cave is a scary place. A flashlight is recommended. Skulls and bones lie in the rock as a reminder of the horror. The Khmer Rouge marched people, lined them up, then beat them to death and let their bodies fall into the darkness below.
The place has been converted into a memorial for those who lost their lives here. The descent into the cave is beautiful - the rock is covered with green vegetation and low-hanging lianas. The cave is quite large inside and in the middle of the room lies a huge golden Buddha. But at the foot of the stairs there is a wire mesh cage full of bones. The atrocities that took place in this beautiful place suddenly become very present. To the right is another memorial with human remains enclosed in a glass box.
Today a mixture of mostly Cambodian tourists mill around the caves.
