The charnel house, Epiphany Chapel - ossuary of the old cemetery, a beautiful late Romanesque Austrian charnel house from the mid-13th century. It is an 11-sided, circular two-story structure on the outside and features an original door and Romanesque frescoes. Restored in 1874.

The charnel house is located directly behind the parish church of St. Stephen and is without doubt a jewel of late Romanesque architecture that is unparalleled in all of Europe - this is also confirmed by the art historical literature.

The building was built around 1240/50, probably on the orders of the last Babenberg duke, Frederick II, by a Norman building workshop that had previously worked in Jak in western Hungary - there is an almost identical funnel portal there.

The charnel house in Tulln is the city's most important building in terms of art history. Some art historians consider the building, which was probably built in the 13th century based on the model of the eleven-sided chain dome in Jerusalem, to be the most beautiful charnel house in Austria. The term charnel house, also known as carnarium, stands for an ossuary. In some places the complex has two levels, the upper level as a prayer room, the lower level as a charnel house, as is the case in Tulln. The Tulln charnel house, also known as the Chapel of the Three Kings, was completed around 1240, during a period of economic prosperity in the city. The last Babenberg duke, Frederick II, the Quarrelsome, is considered to be the builder.
