The third largest city in the German federal state is one of the four major centres and the main town in the southeast with around 64,000 inhabitants and a catchment area of around 420,000 inhabitants.[3] It lies between the Baltic Sea and the metropolitan areas of Stettin to the east, Rostock to the northwest and Berlin to the south.
