According to the "Priority concept for planning and restoring ecological permeability in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania rivers", which was drawn up by the State Office for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Geology (LUNG) in cooperation with the Institute for Fisheries of the State Research Institute for Agriculture and Fisheries, the Ölmühlenbach is home not only to eels but also to river and brook lamprey, trout, asp, vendace and catfish. With the completion of the fish ladder, an increased population of these species is expected in the upper reaches, including Lake Tollense.
