      The pilgrimage church of the Holy Trinity is the landmark of Gößweinstein. This monumental church, whose two towers majestically greet the country, together with its pilgrimage forms the religious center of Franconian Switzerland.
      Thousands of pilgrims come to this place of worship every year. In addition, the basilica is the destination of many art lovers and tourists.         Gößweinstein is the largest Trinity pilgrimage site in Germany. Every year around 140 pilgrimage groups move to Gößweinstein. The basilica with its magnificent high altar and wax figures is also a cultural highlight for hikers.

        Mass times:
        Sundays (October to April): 7.30 am, 9.00 am, 10.30 am; Eve Mass 19.00
        Sundays (May to September): 7:00 am, 9:00 am, 10:30 am; Eve Mass 19.00
        Weekdays: 7:00 pm, except Fridays

        The three-storey pilgrimage museum also invites visitors to visit its changing exhibitions.

        High season (Easter Sunday - November 1st): Tuesday - Sunday 10.00 - 17.00
        Low Season (2nd November - Easter Saturday): Sunday 10.00 - 17.00

                                    In 1071 a chapel is said to have stood on the site of the basilica. In 1240, the Keysberg Conrad I and his wife Kunigunde converted the chapel into a spacious church dedicated to the Holy Trinity. The earliest mention of a church in Gozwinstein is in 1308 in the will of Gottfried von Schlüsselberg. The Keyberger family is credited with founding the first church; she also founded the Cistercian monastery in Schlüsselau, which is also dedicated to the Holy Trinity.

                                    In 1461 Gößweinstein became independent. Previously it was incorporated into the Archdeaconate Hollfeld. Support from noble families can be seen early on, for example from Groß zu Trockau. The first indulgences were granted to the church in 1511. At that time, the later main pilgrimage day of Trinity, the Sunday after Pentecost, was not among the days provided with indulgences.
