The subsoil is the same on both sides of the road. The part on the road from Gerhagen is also managed as a piece of heathland and both areas naturally merge into each other. Note that the management of Averbode Bos & Heide requires a lot of effort and this also has consequences for the future and the subsoil. The fact that there is more sand here is largely the result of nature management. You will find inland dunes on both sides of the road. For example, you can clearly see the inland dune at the forest museum in Gerhagen where the VVV tower is located. In the past, residents sometimes went there to get sand that they used for their constructions. You will also find inland dunes here, as well as a lot further west, past the abbey, in Brabant (for example at the Weefberg).
Finally: the Landduinen sign between the photos is not here but at the inland dune near the Laat Poeltje, immediately one of the closest to this place.
