Well, strictly speaking, the Ottofelsen is just one of many cliffs and rocks in the Harz Mountains. What is now and then more reminiscent of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains is also an integral part of the Harz Mountains: jagged cliffs, steeply towering rocks that often look like rocks thrown together. Sometimes even small bushes or trees manage to push their roots into the crevices. It looks like they spring straight out of the rock. Many of these Harz cliffs are natural monuments and almost each has its own legend. They are all formed by the weather or by rainwater and frost over many thousands of years. They are very rare in Central Europe outside the Alps.

The 36 meter high Ottofelsen near Drei Annen Hohne was made accessible in 1892 using iron ladders and can be climbed. It is a bit of an adventure playground in nature and is definitely worth climbing. From Drei Annen Hohne you can visit the Ottofelsen as well as the Leistenklippe, Hohneklippen and Zeterklippen in one day. If you like to stop off, you should hike on to the Steinerne Renne.
