This holy site as a whole is not really unusual at first glance: a conglomeration of different temples, a stone stupa, bungalows for the monks who live here and countless, somewhat weathered grave monuments - but thanks to their morbid charm, they are also magnificent to look at.
"Samret", which in Thai means "success, triumph, completion", was built more than 100 years ago under the reign of King Rama II and is a place of pilgrimage for all locals who ask for success in life. The large, richly decorated Wat in the center is only open at 7 a.m. for the monks' prayers. But the real highlight is a rather inconspicuous little "house" whose gates are open...!

This building is easy to miss because it is really hidden in the last corner behind the main temple. But that is exactly where you should go, because what awaits you there will leave even long-time Thailand experts speechless!

Two oversized mythical creatures, who act as "temple guards", guard the building - but the entrance door is open. Not a soul is to be seen, there is an eerie silence. And then the surprise: in the so-called "secret hall of Buddhas", around 3 dozen human-sized Buddhas have gathered, grouped in tailor/yoga positions around a 3-meter-high Buddha image (from India!) and a reclining, snow-white Buddha made of white marble ("Reclining Buddha") - "in line".

The sight of this holy gathering is hard to beat in terms of mysticism. Why is this dreamlike "Buddha house" so remote? This remains as much a mystery as the story itself, which takes place inside the "secret hall". Why is it the way it is? What do the figures mean? Who made them? No sign, no explanation - not even in Thai.
