It is a Russian Orthodox (Sentiki) house of prayer that is still functioning, 1 km south of the border with Latvia. Turmants community of old people was finally formed in 1933, when a house of prayer was built with donated funds. Until then, local believers used to go to services in Dūkšte. The construction of the chapel lasted three years. It was consecrated by Michailas Blinovas, the priest of Dūkstas, who used to come to Turmantas to baptize and bury old parishioners even before the church was built. in 1949 the community had about 500 members.
