The Florinsmarkt
In the old days, the Florinsmarkt was the political and economic center of the city of Koblenz.

It owes its name to the Florinskirche, which, together with the old "Kauf und Danzhaus", the Schöffenhaus and the Bürresheimer Hof, forms an ensemble of four historic buildings that is one of the most beautiful groups of buildings in the city.

The old "Kauf- und Danzhaus" was built in 1419 in the Gothic style and in the 17th/18th Century remodeled. It received baroque elements. Merchants whose ships were docked on the banks of the Moselle offered their goods here in the basement, while meetings and festivals were held on the remaining floors.

The Florinsmarkt owes its name to the Florinskirche, which, along with the "Alten Kauf- und Danzhaus", the Schöffenhaus and the Bürresheimer Hof, is just one of the buildings worth seeing that surround the square. The entire ensemble of buildings has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley since 2002. In September 2013, a company founded for this purpose under the umbrella of the GÖRLITZ Foundation acquired all the municipal buildings around the square.

The ensemble of buildings is located in Koblenz's old town, which forms the original center of the city and the settlement area from the Roman founding in 9 BC. to date. The city of Koblenz with its approximately 110,000 inhabitants includes many localities in the vicinity that were incorporated until 1970. Totally destroyed in World War II, the old town was rebuilt in the years that followed. Today, it has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley since 2002 and attracts with its historical character through its lovingly restored buildings.
