The place was first mentioned in 1291 as a possession of the family Notthafft on Wildstein. The place and other goods of the family were to the Nuremberg burgrave Friedrich III. pledged. About the family Neuberg and the city of Eger, the place finally passed in 1534 into the possession of the family Zedtwitz, which already had considerable possession in the Ascher Larch.

After the abolition of patrimonial Oberreuth formed in 1850 a district of the community Wernersreuth in the district Asch and Asch district. In 1874 Oberreuth broke up and became a separate municipality. A major fire in 1917 destroyed many buildings and many families migrated to it. In 1939, Oberreuth had 241 inhabitants.

Between 1938 and 1945, the community was part of the German district of Asch. After the expulsion of the Germans in 1945, the city became part of the restricted area in 1950. The place fell noticeably. In 1970, the last remnants of the village were demolished. Today you can still guess the remains of the old cemetery in nature.
