In the sections close to town (List/Vahrenwalde), the gravel is quite fine or partially paved, making it a very pleasant ride. In warmer weather, it can be a bit dusty at times, but not problematic. In the northern sections of Bothfeld, Buchholz, and Misburg, the route is significantly rougher, making it quite strenuous to ride on a hybrid bike. In my opinion, it's not entirely suitable for road bikes. There are no railings at some of the bridge underpasses. Since the route is shared with many pedestrians, everyone is encouraged to ride responsibly.

I don't understand why such derogatory comments about gravel and/or dust are being made here. This is certainly relevant information for allergy sufferers and asthmatics. Not everyone is a "bad" road cyclist—in that sense: Yes! Let's just keep things in perspective.

The paths are only partially paved, mostly mostly gravel. It is therefore often very dusty in summer. Within the urban area it is a good opportunity to cycle relatively quickly off the streets. With a pure city bike, however, the pleasure is somewhat clouded due to the many long gravel phases. There is a lot of traffic, especially in urban areas, on summer weekends. Outside it is much quieter.

You should leave the church in the village! Such comments as e.g. "only partially asphalted", "mostly gravel", "very often dusty", "many long gravel phases" are all 'fly in the ointment'. It's a good thing that the beautiful riverside cycle path is not suitable for racing cyclists, then I wouldn't be able to enjoy it anymore. The well-paved path along the bank was a gift from the Expo as part of the canal widening at the turn of the millennium. All bridges were finished on time. Those who used to want to cycle along the canal either couldn't get through at all or had to take a beaten path. So thank you for this wonderful bike route !!

In addition to our comment from November 5, 2020: There is complex map and information material for the MLK area in Hanover, which you can take with you free of charge from the traffic office on Ernst-August-Platz directly opposite the Hanover main station. Three brochures are available there if they are not out of print in the meantime: 1. Discover Hanover - Mittelland Canal Route; 2. Mittelland Canal Route East / North Port of Hanover - Mehrum Power Plant 3. Mittelland Canal Route West / Idenser Marina - North Port of Hanover. Recently, the decision to redesign part of the MLK route as a cycle highway has been the subject of heated debate in the city of Hanover. (asphalt and illuminate). The pleasure of cycling would then come to an end and traffic police officers would be assigned to the route. 😉😉😉
