The castle house is a legendary building with a predecessor from the High Middle Ages. It was first mentioned in the late 13th century. According to legend, the Knight of Hellenthal joined Emperor Barbarossa on a crusade. The current building dates from the 15th/16th. century and is privately owned.

An absolute highlight on the Panorama Tour is the small, dreamy Hellenthal in the Sülztal.
Its special feature is the small and well-preserved chapel of St. Barbara, which is also often called the Hellenthal chapel. Built by a Cologne mayor "Joan zum Pütz" (in office 1701/02) who lived in the neighboring Burghaus Hellenthal. The small village consists of a few half-timbered houses at the foot of the Königsforst, which create a very special atmosphere when you see the hills further along the path.
Unfortunately, the chapel is closed and not freely accessible.
