This church – or at least its tower – is the oldest building in the city. In the 15th century, a Gothic building with three naves was built, with a facade tower. In the 19th century, with the rise of the textile industry, the city welcomed more and more inhabitants, and therefore more and more loyal: the church had to be enlarged! The architect Charles Leroy, a great lover of the neo-Gothic style, completed a flamboyant building in 1859. From the original building, he only kept the facade tower, which can still be admired, and a few columns from the nave. In 1978, sorry Charles, but the wheel is turning, and a major project aimed to remove a large part of the neo-Gothic decor. The rectangular building consists of a front facade, a nave with double aisles and an apse. The tower is surrounded by two portals with neo-Gothic decoration. The side facades are crowned with an openwork and decorated railing and open by monumental portals. Open from Tuesday to Saturday, from 2pm to 6pm

St. Martin's Church is the oldest building in the city. The church was expanded halfway through the 19th century to accommodate the many workers and their large families from Catholic Flanders.

Inside you can admire several paintings by Flemish masters from the 17th century as well as an altarpiece depicting the life of John the Baptist - a rarity - from an Antwerp studio.

The “Eglise Saint-Martin” is a Catholic church in Roubaix, France. It is the oldest building in the city and dates back to the 12th century. The church is dedicated to Saint Martin, the apostle of the Gauls. The bell tower is the only remaining part of the church that survived the fire of 1684. It is a beautiful example of medieval architecture and attracts many visitors. The church was enlarged in the 19th century in neo-Gothic style. The altar is composed of parts of an old pulpit (17th century), and there is a beautifully carved retable (16th century) and a rococo tabernacle (18th century). The tomb of Francis of Luxembourg (1472) is a rare example of a recumbent statue of a child in Tournai stone.
