In order to connect the industry in the northern ring area to the railway network, the Ringbahn and the Nordbahnhof were built. In 1885, the private Braunschweigische Landes-Eisenbahn (BLE) had its headquarters established at the North Station. There were the administration and the railway depot. From here, the first section of the ring track was created. Since October 2011, the House of Cultures is located in Nordbahnhof.

The former Braunschweig Nord railway station has an eventful past, having been the "main station" of the private Braunschweigische-Landes-Eisenbahn (BLE) for several decades. It was laid out in 1886 as a terminus station (exit to the west), with the area initially extending roughly to where the pedestrian bridge would later be. When the line towards Fallersleben was built in 1901, the station got a track extension to the north-east and the striking "buckling shape" was created. From 1886 to 1938, the BLE passenger trains departed from here, and there was also heavy freight traffic both in the station itself and in various nearby sidings. Having its own depot with roundhouse and turntable(!) also showed the importance of this private railway. After the nationalization of the BLE in 1938, however, it was closed and passenger transport was also relocated to the main station. With the decline of many industrial companies after the Second World War, the Nordbahnhof finally sank into insignificance - the last local goods customer was served until around 1992. After several demolition actions (the last one took place in 2002), there are only 2 tracks left, which are used for moving the locomotive on the remaining transfer trains. The former entrance building, on the other hand, has been pleasantly renovated; the Braunschweig public utility company moved here in 1988.
