Since May 22, 2017, three plaques on the natural stone border of the green area in front of the Grassi Museum have been informing people about the eventful history of Johannisplatz. This is where St. John's Church, which was destroyed in 1943, once stood. A fourth plaque refers to the church's connection with Leipzig's Reformation history. In 2015, a circular marker was installed on the lawn in the area of Johann Sebastian Bach's first grave and a rectangular marker at the site of the former Bach-Gellert crypt in St. John's Church. In 1900, Johann Sebastian Bach and the writer Christian Fürchtegott Gellert were reburied there. After the church was destroyed, Bach found his final resting place in St. Thomas Church and Gellert in the South Cemetery.

The circle marks the historic grave of Johamn Selbastian Bach (1835-1750).
The forgotten grave was found in 1894 a few meters south of the old St. John's Church. The anatomist Wilhelm His and the sculptor Carl Seffner were able to identify the bones as Bach's. Seffer was able to reconstruct the distinctive facial features of the Thomas Cantor.
Bach's wife Anna Magdalena (1701-1760) was probably also buried in the same place.
