On July 24, 2004, the time had come. The Eschbach Schlossberghasen (our theater group) used the proceeds from this year's theater season to commission a work of art to mark the 750th anniversary of the local community. The rabbits, designed by Professor Gernot Rumpf (Lachen-Speyerdorf), were unveiled and ceremoniously handed over at a ceremony.
In addition to Tokyo, Jerusalem and many other locations around the world, a work of art by this famous Palatinate artist can now also be admired in Eschbach.
The following speakers spoke at the inauguration ceremony:
The "Schlossberghase" Christa Steinmüller emphasized that the idea of donating a work of art arose from the Schlossberghasen's connection to their hometown. What could be more obvious than to turn the name of the theater group, which is made up of Eschbach's local mountain and the town's vineyard, into a sculpture. After plucking up the courage and calling the well-known artist, a mutual sympathy arose immediately and the artist showed interest in the “small” project. The fun of acting and wine had taken shape.
After our fellow citizens Katharina and Erwin Kraus also found and donated original wine press stones made of Eschbach sandstone, the artist designed three “Schlossberg rabbits” which were mounted on the stones that Winfried Laux had painstakingly erected.
The ceremony was accompanied by music from Mrs. Kugelmann and her daughter Luisa. In bright sunshine, the rabbits were christened with Eschbach anniversary sparkling wine and wine.

The rabbits were made from a bronze alloy (90% copper and 10% tin). The clay molds were fired at 640 degrees, the alloy was cast at 1,200 degrees and then the mold was destroyed. This process, which ensures that the rabbits remain unique for all time, is called the "lost mold process". For the grapes, real grapes were coated with wax, placed in a mold and then cast. One of the three rabbits has a script with the plays performed in recent years in front of him, and a camera is also visible in view of a possible film adaptation. The second rabbit has grapes on his back and ears and the smaller rabbit has grapes between his ears. Stroking the rabbits on the nose will bring good luck. Professor Rumpf praised the private initiative of the Schlossberghasen, since in times of empty public coffers, funds for art are no longer justifiable to the general public.
Greetings were also conveyed from the district administrator, who was unable to attend for personal reasons.
Citizens Katharina and Erwin Kraus were honored with a lifetime ticket to the Schlossberghasen performances for donating the stones.
Winfried Laux was praised for setting up the stones and Mrs. Kugelmann and daughter Luisa were presented with a bouquet of flowers for the musical accompaniment. The artist couple were also given a gift of anniversary champagne for further inspiration.
