Prince Emil Palace + Park - Darmstadt 🚴‍♂️

The Prince Emil Garden is located in the Bessungen district, directly on Heidelberger Straße. The park was designed by the Dieburg garden master Nikolaus Andreas Siebert, modeled on an English landscape park, on behalf of Friedrich Karl von Moser.

The palace was built by Johann Martin Schuknecht. 🚴‍♂️
In keeping with the Romantic sensibilities, the garden once included two ponds and streams, an artificial Gothic ruin, a chapel (which served as a kitchen), a Russian-style farmhouse, and a Chinese pavilion on an island.
Due to changes in ownership, the garden's appearance has changed considerably over time. The original English garden was a 19th-century landscape garden with features of a bourgeois garden at the turn of the century.
After the war, significant developments along the perimeter encroached upon the garden, which were only largely mitigated in recent years thanks to a redevelopment plan.
Of the original buildings, the small palace, which is now used by the community, and the rebuilt island pavilion still exist. 🚴‍♂️
