    The Görlitzer Postplatz was and is one of the most important squares in the city of Görlitz, even if it has lost some of its external glamor since its redesign in 1938 and of its importance since the changes in building functions in recent times. It has developed from the cattle pasture into a central square, which the royal-Prussian and later the imperial-German post office, the court and representative civil buildings gave its frame. Different designs of the green area with the Toberenz fountain, affectionately called Mushelminna by the people of Görlitz, in the center has experienced different versions. The publication is based on a garden conservation study, the aim of which is to find the shape of the square in the future.

            Robert Toberentz, a sculptor from Breslau, made the designs and models; The sculptors Ochs from Berlin made the work in marble. The bronze figure was cast in the Lauchhammer art foundry. The art fountain was inaugurated on November 12, 1887. It is considered the most beautiful fountain in Silesia. Four larger-than-life figures, two men and two women, sit around a stepped Carrara marble base. As hunters, nymphs, fishermen and mermaids, they are said to represent power, scalability, usefulness and romance. On the base stood a female bronze figure, probably representing nature, holding a shell above her head.

            The residents of Görlitz affectionately called this figure Musselminna. Water was only allowed to flow from the bowl on special occasions. This protects the delicate marble figures, as the falling water causes irreparable damage to the precious material. Water spurted from the masks between the figures, small fountains in the basin and the beaks of four swans, which were probably made of cast zinc.

            The Görlitzers' desire for their Minna shape never died and so in 1987 the Dresden sculptor Friedemann Klos was commissioned to create a new shape model based on historical photos. The bronze casting of the new “Minna” was again taken over by the Lauchhammer art foundry and since May 1, 1994, the replica of the original fountain figure has stood on the base and crowns the architectural ensemble of Postplatz.

            During Advent and Christmas, lighting is installed on the Muschelminna base.
